Did you know that starting October 1, 2021 the Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary! This 18 month long commemoration is something you won’t want to miss. As always Disney has some very special things planned to make your experience even more magical during this time. Below we will highlight some of these exciting changes for the 50th anniversary celebration.
Disney Fab 50 Character Collection
Disney has built 50 golden character sculptures that will be on display throughout all four theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort beginning on October 1, 2021. While Disney has not release which character will be portrayed I’m sure Mickey, Minnie as well as all the fan favorites will be on display. Have fun with the family searching for the sculptures, taking pictures and marveling in what I’m sure will be pure Disney magnificence. As we all know Disney goes full force on everything they do! These sculptures are something we are very excited about and can’t wait to make part of our 50th anniversary trip.
Beacons of Magic
Each night the iconic symbol for each Disney World theme park will light up as a magical beacon of light. At the Magic Kingdom Cinderella Castle will light up with magical pixie dust. At Epcot the reflective panels of Spaceship Earth will twinkle like stardust. The Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will light up with enchanted fireflies. And finally the Hollywood Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will glitter. While Disney has not shared what time at night the Beacons of Magic will begin for each park, we do assume they will not begin until after sunset when the lights will be even more magical.
3 New Shows at the Parks
Disney has also announced that beginning October 1, 2021 there will be three new shows at the parks.
The first is Harmonious at Epcot. This nighttime spectacular including water, lights, fireworks and more will be located at the Lagoon in the World Showcase. All of this will be set to your favorite Disney songs, sung in multiple languages by over 240 artists from around the world. We are super excited to see this new nighttime show and will definitely be adding it to our list of must-do events.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom there will be a new show taking place in the air. Disney KiteTails will feature character themed kites and wind catchers dancing to classic Disney music. The kites will be flying at the Discovery River Amphitheater. While Disney has not announced what time of day this show will be taking place the drawings they have released show daylight, leading us to believe this will be a daytime show. There is no word on how many times a day this show will take place. Be sure to check showtime cards when you first enter the park to make sure you don’t miss this spectacular event.
The most exciting of the three shows to be announced is Disney Enchantment. This new night time fireworks and light show at the Magic Kingdom is set to replace Happily Ever After on October 2, 2021. While we are very sad that Happily Ever After will be leaving us, we hope that Disney Enchantment will be just as good, if not better. There will be fireworks, lasers and light show that will take place from Cinderella Castle all the way through Main Street, U.S.A. We can’t wait to see this show as the fireworks at Magic Kingdom are always our favorite.
